Ethan Arenson is a federal prosecutor with the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section (CCIPS) of the U.S. Department of Justice. Ethan prosecutes data breaches and other computer intrusions, identity theft, and other high-tech crimes. Ethan also serves as CCIPS’s botnet coordinator and has helped shape the Justice Department’s botnet mitigation strategy. Among other notable cases, Ethan led the team of more than 100 attorneys, law enforcement agents, and private sector representatives that executed the most ambitious and complex malware remediation effort ever undertaken by the Justice Department: the 2014 takedown of Gameover Zeus and Cryptolocker. In recognition of his work at the Justice Department, Ethan has received a number of awards, including the 2015 Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service and the 2013 FBI Director’s Award.
