Alan Cohn is an attorney and consultant in Washington, DC. He is co-chair of the Blockchain and Digital Currency practice at Steptoe & Johnson LLP, and the principal of ADC/Strategy.Works, LLC, an independent consulting firm. Alan previously served as Assistant Secretary for strategy, planning, analysis and risk at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and in similar policy and strategy roles at DHS for nine years. Alan is counsel to the Blockchain Alliance, a non-profit organization that creates a forum for bitcoin and blockchain companies to engage with law enforcement and regulatory agencies. He is also an advisor to several blockchain technology companies, including Chainalysis (investigations), Civic (identity), Bloq (blockchain infrastructure), and Sensify Security (device security on the industrial internet). Alan is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center and the co-chair of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Cybersecurity.
